Baby Cribs
Baby cribs are great but as a parent you have many concerns about getting the right one. There are many things that make a crib the best but do not select features that may cause your baby crib to be unsafe. In recent years there have been tragic crib related accidents that are due to unsafe cribs or unsafe crib usage. In 1989 a crib safety standard was implemented which has provided significantly more safe cribs. Remember that often they are handed down the generations, so if you have a great older crib you inherited, be sure it is safe.
Even new cribs still have safety risks. One risk involves the nature of shipping and setting up cribs. Generally a shopper finds a floor model to buy and a clerk then carts out a crib in a large narrow cardboard box. The expectant parents load this up take it home and open it up to find the guidelines that say some assembly required. Depending on the assemblers skill level the crib may or may not be assembled to the guidelines that cause it to be safe.
Baby Crib Assembly Instructions
Obviously the manufacturer and retailer assume that the buyer will strictly follow the baby crib assembly instructions. Therefore it is imperative that one proceeds slowly and carefully following each single detail of the assembly instructions.
You know that the mattress is only as secure as the support for the mattress. Take the time to tighten every bolt and screw so the crib structure is sturdy before placing a baby in the crib. You should inventory your parts with the parts list that is provided and be sure each part is in good condition.
You also need to understand how safe your mattress might be if it is raised to a higher position or how to clean and care for the crib. This information is included in those instructions. The instructions may also provide helpful information placement locations within a room as well as safely handling bedding and accessories.
Do not forget to file away your instructions once the crib has been assembled. You may need to refer back to them for various reasons such as how to get replacement parts or a review if the crib seems to become unstable.
For those seeking to save money it is safe to buy a used crib if you do your research. It is a good idea when buying second hand to buy a crib that comes with the original assembly instructions and that it still has labels to indicate the manufacturer and date it was made. Of course if it was made after 1989 it should be safe but if not proceed with caution.
Your baby will spend a large portion of their first years in their new baby crib. Be sure this is a safe comfortable for them.
